BACKGROUND — Pat Ravasio for Corte Madera Town Council

Backgrounder

Pat and her husband Bob came to Corte Madera from Chicago in1990. They raised three daughters here and have both been involved in the Corte Madera community. Pat’s primary activities are as follows:

Co-founded Corte Madera Beautification Committee, 1991
Co-founded Oktoberfest - to fund our town’s iconic hanging flower baskets 1994
Created a vision for a community cafe, now Cafe Verde and adjoining Town Park Plaza, and help raise funds to make both happen. 2009 -2011
Recruited internationally known architectural firm Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM) to design a pedestrian bridge over US 101 at Tamalpais Drive. 2014
(SOM proposed a unique cantilevered design which Caltrans presented, some seven years later, to the Town Council of Corte Madera as one of several options. The Town Council selected SOM’s plan (version 4B) as the preferred option, and work is now proceeding by the Town, Caltrans and SOM to find sufficient funding to make this landmark, NYC-Highline-inspired multimodal connector a reality.) 2023
Pat successfully petitioned the Tamalpais Union High School District to open the Redwood High School swimming pool to the community —after being closed for over a decade. 2020 to present.

Creating greater community

In 2011, Pat spearheaded an effort to transform a dilapidated building at the entrance to our Town Park, elementary school and recreation center into a community gathering space featuring a beloved locally-owned restauranteur. Thanks to the supportive and creative Town Council of the timel, Cafe Verde was born.

I’m very proud of the amazing gathering place created by Saeed (Tony) Farahmand, of Benissimo fame. He invested a great deal in making “tenant improvements” that the Town could not afford. We are very lucky he stepped up to create Cafe Verde, and that the Corte Madera Community Foundation led an excellent fundraising effort to design and build the beautiful adjoining Town Park Plaza.

More improvements to come soon,. and incorporating all of Park Madera Center into our Town Park campus is an ongoing project to be revisited soon.

OTHER PROJECTS & PRIORITIES

COMMUNITY GARDENS: Working with master gardeners, UCSF and local volunteer leaders to create new community gardens on both sides of town. These will not only provide garden plots but will help any interested residents learn how to produce more food in their own backyards.
